Interests: Blueberry Muffin bakes the most delicious muffins in Strawberryland. Because she also loves reading stories, her over-active imagination often runs away with her. She frequently exaggerates and uses big words and dramatic phrases. But she's also a lot of fun and thinks up the best make-believe games. Blueberry's muffin-shaped cabin is in Blueberry Valley, a peaceful place surrounded by wild blueberry bushes.

www.thegarrettblog.com

The last time I posted on xanga (April 16th) we were still living in Wenzhou, China and Annabelle was cutting her first two teeth! Wow! Here's a quick update on what's been happening since:

We left Wenzhou and have moved to Shenzhen China (by Hong Kong) to work at Shenzhen University
Annabelle has 8 almost 9 teeth and can WALK! (and has already had stitches as a result of said "walking")
We are PREGGERS again! Baby #2 is due early March
Josh turned 30
My sister had a baby girl, Rees Landry Runnels

I'm sure there are more details that have taken place in the past 4 months but those are the highlights.

As a family we are blogging at www.thegarrettblog.com now although I'll try to still post here every once in a while.

Where there's a will...

apparently there's a way... a way around getting onto "blocked" sites that is. So we downloaded something called "Tor" and now we can access Xanga and any other site that before was off limits. The only hitch is that when we use it everything S-L-O-W-S down. But anyway, small price to stay in touch with all my lovely xanga-land friends.

so life here... well, maybe when it's all over I can write more about it. For now let's just say... the pineapple is great. There are good things and not-so great things... without going into it all... the highlights... I'm teaching 5 preschoolers English once a week... Josh teaches a ton at English First.... I'm meeting with a new believer on Sundays to study John.... we're seriously in prayer about our future.

Oh, and I miss all my friends soooo much. If I could see any of you right now I'd probably squeeze you till your face turned purple.

Much love all the way from China.
PS - Annabelle is in the process of being a proud owner of TWO pearly whites!

No XANGA!?

That's right, friends of Chana. No xanga for her or Josh or anyone in China. I (Vanessa) am posting on behalf of the China-dweller who asked me to write the following  :

let everyone know that we cannot update or comment on anyone’s xanga. I guess it is closed to China . Xanga and Wikipedia. But we still get the updates for people we’ve already subscribed too so that’s cool.

She hopes that they can find another way to blog - and don't we, too? Send her emails instead!

Peace out!

In the News!

Can you believe I've only been in China one week and I made the front page of the local paper?
Here's the picture they put in of me:

I went to do some grocery shopping and when the taxi driver dropped me off he pointed to a pavilion and said "tea" - that's all we could communicate with each other! So I thought it would be fun to have my first Chinese tea experience - little did I know it was some sort of tea exhibition and there were lots of reporters and they all got a kick out of the foreigner trying the local tea. Funny, huh?!!!

Living in China is CRAZY. but more about that later.... gotta run for now.

Josh has a job - he just signed with English First a few hours ago and now he's going to sign a lease for an apartment. Unfortunately they want a deposit, three months rent, and commission all in advance - so we'll be out of money once again for a while.

I love my mom and dad but they are driving me up the wall. I have no escape from this house. Actually I have a car this week and had hoped to be able to escape to Tyler... but now there's no money.... I think I am headed for the looney bin if I don't get out of here.
